Give yourself enough time to gather the necessary evidence to complete the pre-placement requirements. the requirements are mandatory and must be completed by all students before attending a WIL Placement.

All pre-placement check requirements should be submitted to Sonia Online for WIL Compliance review, a minimum of 6 weeks prior to starting on an allocated placement, preferable earlier.






Placement Units


Placement 1: BMSC12005 (180hrs) – Work Integrated Learning

This initial placement occurs in the second year of study which focuses on Specimen Reception, Haematology, Clinical Biochemistry and Transfusion Science.

Placement Discipline Areas:

    • 30 hours in Sample Reception
    • 30 hours in Transfusion/Blood Bank
    • 60 hours in Haematology
    • 60 hours in Clinical Biochemistry

 

Placement 2: BMSC13012 (180hrs) – Advanced Work Integrated Learning

A second period of placement occurs in the third year which is intended to provide either further, more in- depth experience in a “core” laboratory or the opportunity to gain experience in a more specialised area of the student’s choosing.

Placement 3: BMSC14004 (200hrs) – Specialised Work Integrated Learning

The final period of placement occurs in the second (final) term of the fourth (final) year of study designed to allow students to round out their clinical placement experience in a specialised area of the student’s choosing. 



Placement Nomination


To organise your placement, please indicate your preferred placement details by completing the WIL Placement Nomination Form located under ‘Forms’ tab in Sonia.

The process of negotiating placements can be lengthy, be sure to put your location nomination in early if you can. It is preferable to nominate at least 4-5 months before your preferred attendance date.

Please remember to take into consideration your residential school, lab classes, graduation conferral dates and your exam timetable when nominating a proposed date of attendance.




Uniform


Students are required to wear slacks, closed in shoes and a presentable top. A CQUniversity student polo is available for purchase from the CQUniversity Bookshop.

A Student ID Card is to be worn as your name tag and can be ordered through MyCQU.
