A Note on Changes to Varicella

Queensland Health has recently introduced changes to the requirements for students to demonstrate immunity to Varicella. Previously, immunity could be demonstrated through either a positive serology result or evidence of childhood vaccination or two doses of the Varicella vaccine. Under the updated requirements, students must now provide documented evidence of immunity either through serological testing or by providing evidence of two doses of the Varicella vaccine.

BMSC13024 Term 1 2026

Most students have met the Varicella compliance requirement by providing evidence of childhood vaccination. For the duration of the upcoming placement, students will be granted temporary compliance. Please note that full compliance must be demonstrated upon articulation to the University of Queensland.

BMSC13024 Term 1 2027

Most students would have met the Varicella compliance requirement by providing evidence of childhood vaccination. Students are now required to satisfy the updated Varicella requirement. Those who have not done so must provide evidence of immunity through serological testing or by obtaining a second Varicella vaccination.

BMSC11013 Term 1 2026

Students must provide documented evidence of immunity, either through serological testing or evidence of receipt of two doses of the Varicella vaccine.
